The comb is in the shape of a crescent in sync with the Chinese belief of "a moon less full is a sign of more fulfillment and blessings on the way". 10 teeth symbolize 10 good fortunes of life. The simple hand carved scrolls represent the horns of ram, a symbol of prosperity. The small hole in the comb made it possible to suspend it from a person's waist band, sign of prestige and wealth. In ancient China, this was the most romantic, intimate gift between people who were in love.
