The 19th-century red lacquered solid wood Chinese table from Fujian province is a remarkable piece of late Qing dynasty craftsmanship. Solid single-board top is strong and stable, continuing down to a narrow waist with open light slits before reaching 4 straight legs. Great contrast of boldness and delicacy. A screen base connecting the legs showcases the longevity pattern meticulously formed by small pieces of wood joined together through tenon and mortise joinery. Five full-depth drawers, each adorned with black lacquered fronts with hand-painted gilded bamboos, prunus blossoms, and butterflies. Remnants of original gilding and mother of pearl. The drawers are in great condition, with one bearing an original stamp featuring the image of a chubby baby. This versatile table functions both as a desk and a display table for showcasing prized collectibles. Its presence symbolizes good fortune and long lasting prosperity. All original with beautiful natural patina, solid wood, tenon and mortise construction, a testament to the refined esthetics and masterful skills of the artisans in the 19th century Southern Chinese region.
