An exquisite Qing Dynasty hand-carved nephrite jade Guan Yin, Goddess of Great Compassion. The serene figure is seated atop a rock, fronting a flame-shaped mandorla. The broad face with serene expression, with downcast eyes beneath high arched brows and pursed lips. Long, pendulous earlobes frame the face, and a pronounced hairline defines the forehead, leading to a gathered bun. A long, flowing robe drapes gracefully over the figure, pooling around the legs and revealing the right foot. The prominent "Y" shape formed by the strong nose and high brows is a hallmark of the 18th-century Qianlong era, although this piece is believed to be from a slightly later period. This all-natural, original, and finely carved jade statue weighs 1.6 pounds and is a stunning example of Qing Dynasty craftsmanship. Jade dimension: 6.5" H x 4" W x 2" D.
