Antique Stone Sitting Buddha

A beautifully 19th century stone Buddha seated in dhyana asana, with hands resting gracefully in the lap in dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation and inner contemplation. The serene face is finely carved with gently lowered eyes, a subtle smile, elongated earlobes, and tightly curled hair rising to a prominent ushnisha. Buddha is draped in a flowing monastic robe, its softly carved folds following the contours of the body. The reverse is equally compelling, revealing the sculptural quality of the figure from every angle. The robe sweeps diagonally across the back in broad, graceful folds, while the curled hair and elongated ears remain distinctly articulated. The stone retains a wonderful naturally aged surface, with layers of gray, warm ochre and earthy mineral coloration developed over time.
